In brief: Body confirmed to be missing boy, 7
Pend Oreille County sheriff’s officers confirmed Tuesday that a body found Sunday on the bank of the Pend Oreille River was that of a boy who was struck by a boat on June 30.
The victim, 7-year-old Jordan T. Mason, was hit while being towed on an inner tube.
The boy and a 17-year-old girl were being towed by the boy’s father, Tim Mason, director of the Riverview Bible Camp north of Cusick, Wash., when an oncoming boat driven by a camp employee hit their inner tube.
The girl suffered minor injuries, but Jordan sank and didn’t resurface. The collision knocked him out of his life jacket, witnesses said.

CenterStage’s safe stolen in burglary
Burglars ransacked the management offices at CenterStage, 1017 W. First Ave., on Monday night and made off with the office safe, which contained about $1,400 in cash.
The safe also held credit card records from the affiliated Ella’s Supper Club. Connie Sagona of CenterStage advised the public that all credit cards used at Ella’s between June 25 and July 7 should be monitored for unauthorized purchases. The safe contained credit card numbers but no names or security codes. The safe did not contain credit card information from the CenterStage box office or from catered events.
The burglars broke into the box office and used a fire extinguisher to smash through bolted doors into the second level of the building.
A laptop computer and a small stereo were also stolen.
The burglary is another financial blow for CenterStage, which is in the middle of a fundraising drive.
“It’s discouraging,” said Sagona. “We’re just a little nonprofit.”
