Merit scholars recently named
Three Spokane high school graduates will receive Merit Scholarship awards from Pacific-10 Conference universities for the upcoming school year.
Shadle Park High School graduate Elizabeth Korsmo, who plans to study chemistry at the University of Washington, and alumnus Samuel Comi, who plans to study mathematics at Arizona State University, each received a college-sponsored grant.
Lewis and Clark High School graduate Lauren Boubel, who plans to study economics, will receive an award from the University of Washington.
The students are among roughly 4,600 students who were awarded National Merit Scholarship Corp. grants from more than 200 colleges and universities.
The $500 to $2,000 awards, based in part on students’ academic records, school and community involvement, standardized test scores, written recommendations and an essay, are renewable for up to four years.
