White Sox 7, Tigers 1: At Detroit, Paul Konerko hit two home runs and Jon Garland pitched seven strong innings to lead Chicago to a victory over the Tigers.

Red Sox 1, Royals 0: At Boston, rookie Jon Lester allowed one hit in eight innings and Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth, leading the Red Sox over Kansas City.

Rangers 5, Blue Jays 2: At Toronto, Hank Blalock hit a go-ahead single in a five-run eighth inning and Texas rallied for a victory over the Blue Jays.

Twins 8, Devil Rays 1: At Minneapolis, Francisco Liriano outclassed fellow young gun Scott Kazmir, allowing three hits over 8 2/3 innings in Minnesota’s victory over Tampa Bay.

Athletics 5, Orioles 4: At Baltimore, Bobby Crosby and Mark Ellis hit consecutive homers, and Oakland scored two runs without a hit in the fourth inning to take the lead for good in a victory over the Orioles.

Angels 7, Indians 5: At Anaheim, Calif., Joe Saunders pitched seven sharp innings in an emergency start for the ailing Kelvim Escobar and Los Angeles extended its longest winning streak of the season to eight games with a victory over Cleveland. The win was the Angels’ 13th in 14 games, putting them three games better than .500 for the first time this season and keeping them one-half game behind Oakland.
