Trentwood SCOPE – Volunteers voted to keep the same officers and not have an election this year. They also discussed their upcoming fundraiser at the Sprague rest stop on Interstate 90 in August. (Source: President Jan Eastman)

Valley Fire – Commissioners were notified that their rating was upgraded from a 4 to a 3 by the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau based on personnel, training, available apparatus, response times and water systems. The district will provide staff for the Orange County Choppers show at the fairgrounds. Overtime expenses are expected to be about $6,000. Calls for service are up 2.25 percent over this time last year; expenses are currently two percent under budget. (Source: PIO Bill Clifford)

Fairfield City Council – The council discussed paying for extra law enforcement to increase patrols and digital phone service. Mosquito spraying was discussed again with no action taken. Ozzie Knezovich spoke about his candidacy for Spokane County Sheriff. (Source: Deputy town clerk Donna McLean)

Rockford City Council – The council approved the town’s six-year transportation improvement plan. Cal Walker spoke about his candidacy for Spokane County Sheriff. (Source: Town clerk)

Fire District 8 – Commissioners had a farewell celebration for retiring Commissioner Ken Kessler. The commissioners also reviewed the chief’s job performance and gave him a 12 percent raise. The district had solicited bids for an SUV; no bids were submitted. The commissioners passed a resolution to allow the chief to purchase an SUV without going to bid.
