RiverHawks split pair
BEND, Ore. – Brian Budrow pitched six shutout innings Saturday as Bend snapped the Spokane RiverHawks’ five-game winning streak with an 8-2 decision in the second game of a West Coast Conference Baseball League doubleheader at Vince Genna Stadium.
League-leading Spokane (22-8) won the opener 5-2 as Cory Powell (4-0) pitched a complete-game six-hitter. Darin Holcomb’s two-run double highlighted the RiverHawks’ three-run third.
Bend (18-12) led the second game 8-0 after a five-run fourth. Spokane’s Brent Mertens had an RBI triple in the eighth.
Spokane, which entered the night with a 3 1/2-game lead over Wenatchee, is 4-2 against Bend this year and has won 17 of its last 21 games. Third-place Bend has won seven of its last 10.
