Arrests made after chase, gun-waving

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Dishman-Mica Road was closed for about 1 1/2 hours Thursday while Spokane Valley Police arrested four people in a gun-waving incident that led to a high-speed chase.

The episode began about 1 p.m. with a report that people in a 1994 Nissan Stanza were waving a rifle at another car at Sprague Avenue and Argonne Road. Officer Fred Morford tried to pull over the suspects, but they fled south on Argonne, Sgt. Dave Reagan said.

Another officer ambushed the suspects with a spike strip that flattened three of their tires, but the Stanza continued south onto Dishman-Mica Road at up to 80 mph, Reagan said. The car finally stopped at 29th Avenue.

Mark A. Michael, 19, of Connell, Wash., was arrested on suspicion of attempting to elude police, driving without a valid license and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

The car’s owner, 20-year-old Ricci R. Samuels, of Wellpinit, Wash., was arrested on suspicion of making false statements as well as being a minor in possession of alcohol.

A 17-year-old boy was booked on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol and of intimidation with a weapon. Another boy, 16, was so drunk he needed hospital treatment.
