Mower heisted Monday

The Spokesman-Review

The summer season started out with a theft on Memorial Day in broad daylight and in full view of bystanders.

Sometime between 3 and 4 p.m. Monday, somebody cut a security cable linking together a group of lawnmowers at Ace Hardware at Sprague Avenue and Sullivan Road, said Spokane Valley Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan. The thief took a $630 Toro lawnmower.

Employees said the lawnmower was on display with others near the front of the store.

Anyone with information is asked to call Spokane Valley Police at 242-TIPS.

Traffic stop leads to drug charge

A woman was arrested Saturday night after she allegedly made several bad lane changes, didn’t use her turn signal and cut off another car waiting to turn.

Tasha Michelle Peterson, 35, was in her 1993 Oldsmobile near Freya Street and Eighth Avenue when officers noticed she was driving poorly, said Spokane Valley Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.

After stopping Peterson, officers discovered her license which was suspended also had expired in early May. Officers determined she had no proof of insurance and an outstanding warrant. After driving Peterson to jail and booking her on the warrant, officers found a bag of methamphetamine in the back seat of the patrol car.

The officers returned to the jail and added a felony drug possession count.
