Soap Box Derby on Saturday

The Spokesman-Review

The force of gravity will hurtle several young people down a short hill as the Spokane Soap Box Derby’s All-American Race is held Saturday.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and should go until 2 p.m on Skipworth Street between 20th and 24th avenues in Spokane Valley. Racers are youths, ages 8 to 13, and the winner earns a trip to compete at the World Finals in Akron, Ohio, in July.

Taylor Taigen, 8 years old and 46 pounds at the time, won the race last year. This year, only a stock car division will be raced, in which cars and drivers together must total 200 pounds.

The event is free. For more information, call 466-5131.
