‘Bright’ describes class of ‘06

Leah Jordan North Central High School

“Freshmen, Class of 2006, are you here?!” the MC bellowed as the freshman section erupted with cheers. Thus was our introduction to North Central High School in September 2002. Let’s talk about what we were and what we have become. We were small, insecure, apprehensive kids walking through the Howard Street doors. Now we are confident young adults ready to take on whatever challenges life throws our way.

What kind of class were we? Some would say a nightmare; others labeled us as a dream come true. One word to describe our class: bright. Whether that brilliance was manifested in or out of the classroom, we excelled in academics, music, athletics, and life. Many of us have won academic scholarships and have maintained outstanding academic records.

In music, a number of us achieved the honor of representing our school at a state music function. Many of our athletic classmates have led teams to state and broken school records.

In life, we have grown tremendously. Some of us care for our families financially and practically, while others are dependent members of a family. Whatever our status, we all have developed and learned somewhat how to deal with life and make it in the world.

As we all enter the “real world,” the life beyond the comfortable doors of NC, a chapter in the chronicle of each unique life will close, but we each will open a new and exciting chapter. No matter what we choose to do in life, we will change our portion of the world in some way. So, I leave you with our class motto, which in some way has been and will be the story of each of our lives:

“For years we have tread a path,

From dawn to setting sun,

But now the path gets steeper,

And the climb has just begun.”
