Prom snapshots

The Spokesman-Review

Graduation season is here, but there’s another rite of passage just as important: the prom.

In May, we decided to preserve the fleeting memory of dressed-up teens by asking for your photos, then running the dozen or so we received. Instead, we got somewhere between 45 and a kajillion pictures – we lost count a while back.

Some of them show young men ready to conquer the world, while others show boys fidgeting in new clothes.

Many are of young women wearing dresses in all the colors of spring, from marigold to fuchsia, from pale rose to bright daffodil.

One typical picture is of a girl in a beautiful apricot dress standing in a living room, her face alive with trepidation and delight. The snapshot captures the one thing these students have in common: They all seem illuminated from within. These young people are looking into a bright future, and their faces bloom in the light.

A sampling is on these pages. Technical issues prevented us from processing a few pictures, but the rest are online at http://www.spokesmanreview.com/sections/06proms/.
