Giants League leaders hold postions during wet spell

Leaders of the Spokane Valley Baseball Giants League maintained their position during a week that was affected by rainy weather.

Valley Electric from Mountain View improved to 3-0 with a 31-8 win over Jim Frazier Pro and Trophy Shop (Centennial).

Alec Baker was 5-for-5 with three doubles. He scored four times and drove in eight runs.

Blake Bowman went 5-for-6, Jake Reynolds was 4-for-4, and two other players, Zack Ettinger and Jon Hicks had four hits each.

The quartet accounted for six more doubles and 11 more RBIs.

Valley Electric is a half game ahead of VEBA (Evergreen), which edged Autocraft 8-7. Autocraft split games during the week. Three other contests went unreported

Banner Furnace and Fuel, from Pasadena Park, went head-to-head with other unbeaten Midget League teams and went undefeated.

Banner improved to 4-0 by beating Randall & Hurley Inc. 7-3 and Spokane Valley Shrine Club 8-4. Against the Ponderosa team, Banner scored five runs in the first inning, and Brady Bergman pitched one-hit shutout ball over the final three, striking out five.

Connor Butner and Corey Spalding were each 2-for-2 and drove in two runs each. Tyler Stavnes tripled in a run and scored twice.

Against Otis Orchards, Austin Luhn was 2-for-2 with a triple, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Carson Driskill pitched three no-hit innings and fanned seven.

Both Randall & Hurley, with Brandon Anderson and Carson Schlect combining for 13 strikeouts and Anderson hitting a home run, and the Shriners won their other games.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Valley Instant Printing (Trentwood) moved into second place with a trio of wins. It beat Leo’s Photography (South Pines) 18-1, Blasingame Insurance (Greenacres) 17-0 and won 8-4 over Brad DeCounter DDS (Ness).

Matthew Stewart struck out six batters in two innings of pitching in one game and hit a three-run home run in another. Dustin Dach hurled three-innings of no-hit baseball in one win, homered and doubled to drive in five runs in another.

Tyler Barnes, Alec Jesperson and Cody Jewell all had two-hit games, the latter driving in four runs.

Elsewhere, Justin Sulya was 6-for-6 and Eric Gravos 4-for-5 for Grocery Outlet (Adams). Zach Allen of Conley’s Place (University) had eight strikeouts in a game, and Casey Fink pitched one-hit ball and had two hits in another.

Pee Wee teams had all but two Wednesday games postponed by Wednesday’s rainstorm.

Unbeaten Spokane County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (Sunrise) is one of four teams to get all four of its games in, winning 10-1 over Spokane Indians (Greenacres 2) and 4-2 over Hot Shots (South Pines).

Pitchers Alec Grebe, Tyler Pichette and Jackson Wollan joined forces for 26 strikeouts in the two wins. Pichette ended the first game by turning a double play from shortstop and Mike Hansen homered.

The Sunrise team leads Mark Spear Homeselling (Otis Orchards) and George Velis DDS (Ponderosa) by half a game in the National Division.

Mark Spear won 11-3 in its only game of the week, Dylan Swannack with six strikeouts in two innings of pitching and Darian Walker with a two-run home run.

Three teams, A-L Compresses Gases (McDonald), Commercial Lending NW (Greenacres 1) and ICA Associates (University), are 3-0 in the American Division.

A-L won 13-6, Angelo Gonzalez fanning eight batters in three innings pitching. Dylan Rabideaux hit a two-run single.

Jacob Tuler had two hits and struck out eight batters pitching for Sterling Self Storage (Adams) in a 9-8 win. Evan Shuster also had two hits and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the last inning.

President’s Cup settled

A champion has emerged from three weeks of Liberty Lake 18-Hole Women’s Club President’s Cup golf.

Maggie Steffy was the overall winner with a net total score of 211.

Winners in first flight were Jean Hatcher in first with 221 and Jackie Shea in second with 226.

Second flight was won by Honey Conlon with 222 over Connie Hatfield‘s 224.

Third flight’s Debbie West finished with 222 and Louise Newtson had 224.

Fourth flight was won by Coleen Wisenor at 229 with Myrna Neubauer in second at 243.

Fewest putts taken during the competition were 93, shared by Billie Etter and Hatfield.

Cup winners named

Final results produced winners for the Liberty Lake Ladies Nine-Hole Golf Club President’s Cup.

Janis Smith was first flight winner with low net of 69. There was a tie for second flight between Sheryl Baumker and Pat Thompson with 78.

In third flight, Carol Dahl netted 71, and fourth-flight winner was Jean Skredsvig with 84. Emma Long had a chip-in on the ninth hole.

Painted Hills scores

Painted Hills Ladies League produced its share of flight leaders during weekly play.

Kim Tucker topped A flight with the low gross of the field, a 47. Carol Frost won B flight with 55.

C flight low gross was a tie between Edie Foedisch and Marion Pillsbury with 58. Nancy Moore won D flight with 61, and Samantha Griffiths shot 56 in no-handicap.

Net winners were Darlene Hurliman in A flight and Betty Snow in B, both with 37. C and D flights were led by Emma Long and Dorothy Rausch, respectively, both with 35.

Rausch had a chip-in on the 17th hole, as did Deanna Tucker on No. 14 and Jill Cobb on No. 15.
