Reward offered in fatal hit-and-run
The nonprofit Secret Witness organization is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a hit-and-run driver who killed a motor scooter rider on June 9.
The incident occurred about 8:40 p.m. on Sprague Avenue, under the Interstate 90 overpass.
Spokane Valley police said Robb Long, 29, of Spokane Valley, was heading east on a small scooter when a motorist in the westbound lanes – which had a red light – swerved into the eastbound lanes in an apparent effort to get around other westbound cars and run the light.
Witnesses told police Long laid his scooter on its side to try to avoid the impending collision, but only the scooter was spared. The oncoming car ran over Long and fled onto I-90.
Sgt. Dave Reagan said the suspect’s vehicle is believed to be a 1998 to 2004 Dodge Intrepid with no fog lamps. Witnesses described the color as silver, gray or off-white and said the car may have tinted windows.
Reagan said the car may have cracks in the paint on the front bumper, beneath the right headlight. It also may have scuffed or scraped tires and wheels on the left side from driving over a concrete traffic island at the crash site.
Anyone with information about the vehicular homicide may report it anonymously by calling Secret Witness at (509) 327-5111, using a code name or number to collect the reward.
