Correction

The Spokesman-Review

Editor’s note: The following is the Associated Press correction on a story The Spokesman-Review ran on June 13 on page C5 of the sports section.

In a June 12 story about former Gonzaga coach Dan Fitzgerald accepting a new job as community relations manager for the Northern Quest Casino, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Fitzgerald maintained a slush fund used to help basketball players with financial needs. Fitzgerald resigned in December 1997 after a school investigation determined he had been collecting and spending some athletic department funds without the knowledge of the university controller’s office, a possible violation of NCAA rules. Fitzgerald contended that none of the money went to players or into his own pocket. The university and Fitzgerald have never released the exact details that led to Fitzgerald’s resignation.
