Nationals 11, Yankees 9: At Washington, Daryle Ward lumbered around the bases to score the go-ahead run on Jose Guillen’s eighth-inning triple, and the Nationals overcame a seven-run deficit to beat New York. Johnny Damon’s second grand slam of the season helped the Yankees take a 9-2 lead in the fifth inning.

Angels 3, Padres 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Dallas McPherson hit an inside-the-park homer to drive in the go-ahead runs, Ervin Santana pitched six strong innings, and Los Angeles beat San Diego.

Red Sox 5, Braves 3: At Atlanta, David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis each hit solo home runs to help Boston hand the Braves their 16th loss in their last 19 games.

Orioles 4, Mets 2: At New York, former Mets pitcher Kris Benson celebrated his return to Shea Stadium with his first career home run and pitched eight effective innings to lead Baltimore past Pedro Martinez and New York.

Brewers 3, Indians 2: At Milwaukee, Geoff Jenkins hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Brewers over Cleveland.

Astros 7, Royals 2: At Houston, Taylor Buchholz allowed two hits in six innings and Lance Berkman had a double and four RBIs to lead the Astros past Kansas City.

Devil Rays 7, Phillies 2: At Philadelphia, Rocco Baldelli and Carl Crawford homered, Scott Kazmir pitched five solid innings and Tampa Bay handed the Phillies their sixth straight loss.

Tigers 9, Cubs 3: At Chicago, Carlos Guillen, Magglio Ordonez and Placido Polanco had three hits apiece to lead Detroit to a victory over the Cubs. Chicago has lost six straight games.

Marlins 8, Blue Jays 2: At Miami, Brian Moehler pitched seven strong innings and Florida defeated Toronto for its seventh straight victory.

White Sox 8, Reds 6: At Cincinnati, a throwing error in the ninth by Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips let in two runs and helped Chicago rally past Cincinnati.

Twins 5, Pirates 3: At Pittsburgh, Justin Morneau homered to break an eighth-inning tie and lift the Twins over the Pirates for their sixth straight victory.

Rangers 8, Diamondbacks 4: At Arlington, Texas, Gary Matthews Jr. hit a two-run homer and robbed Arizona’s Shawn Green of a homer to help Texas beat Arizona.

Athletics 5, Dodgers 4 (17): At Oakland, Calif., Bobby Crosby drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 17th inning to score Marco Scutaro with the winning run as the Athletics edged Los Angeles.

National League

Cardinals 6, Rockies 5: At St. Louis, Jeff Suppan pitched into the eighth inning for his 100th career victory and Juan Encarnacion homered twice to lead the Cardinals to a win over Colorado.
