1964: Civil rights workers Michael H. Schwerner, Andrew Goodman and James E. Chaney disappeared in Philadelphia, Miss.; their bodies were later found buried in an earthen dam. (Edgar Ray Killen, was convicted of manslaughter 43 years later.)
