In brief: Curtis finally wins title after rain delays

Ben Curtis won the PGA’s Booz Allen Classic Tuesday after six mostly waterlogged days in Potomac, Md.

Curtis won his first title since the 2003 British open after finishing five shots ahead of Billy Andrade.

Hardly anyone saw Curtis complete the five-stroke win. Fans were not allowed on the course because the tournament didn’t anticipate six days of security arrangements.

Scott signs extension

American keeps medal

American cyclist Tyler Hamilton will keep his gold medal from the 2004 Athens Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected an appeal by the Russian Olympic Committee to strip Hamilton of his time-trial gold medal because of a doping controversy and give it to silver medalist Vyacheslav Ekimov.

Tour organizers in Paris decided that accusations against the star German cyclist in the widening Spanish investigation into doping were too weak to ask him to withdraw.

Cuban considers Pens

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and former quarterback Dan Marino want to expand into a different sport in their hometown – hockey. The two have joined with others in trying to buy the NHL’s Penguins from Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux’s group.
