Carillon concert celebrates Fourth of July

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is kicking off its Summer Carillon Concert series Tuesday at 9 p.m. in celebration of the Fourth of July.

Andrea McCrady, the cathedral carillonneur, will play patriotic tunes, and Ellen Dickenson, a carillon consultant at Yale University, will join McCrady for that finale.

After the concert, the audience is invited to picnic in the church yard and watch the fireworks.

On July 6 at 7 p.m. at the church, Dickenson will be joined by Roy Lee, a member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America, as they launch the first of the Thursday night concert series in July.

Both concerts are free, and anyone wishing to attend should bring chairs and blankets.

Drama performance

New Hope Christian Reform Church, 3110 W. Francis Ave., is presenting the Lifeline Players from Cedarville University today at 6 p.m.

This drama team is from Cedarville University in Ohio and performs skits that convey biblical ideas.

The event will start with a barbecue on the church lawn.

City Gate Ministries fundraiser

ComedySportz, 227 W. Riverside Ave., will donate $4 from each $10 ticket Friday and Saturday to City Gate Ministries.

This family-friendly show includes improvisational comedy.

Youth group-led service

Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 S. Garfield St., is presenting a service led by the junior and senior high youths from Twinlow Music Art Drama and Dance Camp on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Vacation Bible School

Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third Ave., is holding Fiesta Time vacation Bible school July 10-14 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Children in kindergarten through the sixth grade are invited to Fiesta Time, which includes singing, playing and learning.

The church is seeking volunteers to help with the camp.

First Covenant Church, 212 S. Division St., is offering vacation Bible school July 10-14 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Fiesta-themed session will be open to children age 5 through the sixth grade.

Driscoll Boulevard Baptist Church, 4815 N. Driscoll Blvd., is holding vacation Bible school July 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Children in kindergarten through the sixth grade are invited to attend “Arctic Edge, Where Adventure meets Courage.”

Activities will include worship, crafts, plus the kids will perform a program during a dinner July 15 at 6 p.m. at the church.

The dinner also will include carnival games.

Spokane Christian Singles is holding a barbecue Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mission Park, 1208 E. Mission Ave.

Singles in their 20s, 30s and 40s are invited to attend. Each is asked to bring a chair and meat to grill, plus a dish to share.
