Lakeside boys, Pullman girls earn No. 1 state seeds
Jeff Harrington scored 21 points and had seven rebounds, as Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) picked up a 41-23 win over Riverside in Wednesday’s District 7 2A championship boys basketball game at Mead High School.
The Eagles (15-7) held a slim 17-14 lead at the half, but the Rams (14-9) opened the second half by going scoreless for the first 12 minutes and shot 18 percent (8 of 44) for the game.
Lakeside advances to next week’s State 2A Tournament at Yakima as the No. 1 seed. Riverside plays Chewelah on Friday at Mead for the No. 2 seed.
Girls
Jamie Thornton recorded game-highs of 10 points and nine rebounds, leading Pullman to the District 7 2A championship with a 48-22 win over Medical Lake, also at Mead High.
The Greyhounds (18-4) also received five points, eight assists, and four steals from Kelli Davis and seven second-half points from Alyssa Garro. Pullman had a 35-22 advantage on the boards.
The Greyhounds advance to next week’s State 2A Tournament at Yakima as the No. 1 seed. The Cardinals (14-9) play Lakeside on Friday at Mead for the No. 2 seed.
