Maryland earns rare win over Duke

Laura Harper had 17 points to help Maryland end a 14-game losing streak to Duke with a 78-70 win in the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in Greensboro, N.C.

Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver each scored 16 points for the Terrapins (28-3), who advanced to today’s final against No. 1 North Carolina.

Monique Currie finished with 18 points but couldn’t stop the Blue Devils (26-3) from failing to advance to the final for the first time in seven years.

(1) North Carolina 90, North Carolina State 69: Ivory Latta scored 11 of her 17 points in the first half and the Tar Heels (28-1) cruised to a victory over the Wolfpack (19-11) in the other ACC tourney semifinal game in Greensboro, N.C.

(3) LSU 79, Kentucky 52: Seimone Augustus scored 29 points to help the Tigers (27-2) beat the Wildcats (21-7) in North Little Rock, Ark., and advance to today’s title game of the Southeastern Conference tourney.

(8) Tennessee 89, (12) Georgia 79: Candace Parker had 26 points and 12 rebounds to help the Lady Vols (27-4) pull away from the Bulldogs (21-8) in the other SEC semifinal game.

Tye’sha Fluker added 19 points and Shanna Zolman had 16 for the Lady Vols, who advanced to play No. 3 LSU in tonight’s championship game.

(17) Utah 69, Wyoming 67 (OT): Shona Thorburn’s driving layup with 5.3 seconds left in overtime lifted the Utes (21-6, 12-4 Mountain West Conference) over the Cowgirls (20-7, 10-6) in Laramie, Wyo.

Kim Smith scored 26 points to lead Utah, which overcame a double-digit second-half deficit.

(19) Louisiana Tech 91, Hawaii 52: Erica Ray-Boyd scored 25 points and Tasha Williams became the third player in Louisiana Tech history to record a triple-double as the Lady Techsters (23-4, 15-1 Western Athletic Conference) routed the Rainbow Wahine (18-9, 9-9) in Ruston, La.

Williams had 10 points, 10 steals and 11 assists.

(21) New Mexico 74, (18) Brigham Young 49: Reserve guard Julie Briody scored 16 points and the Lobos (21-8, 11-5 MWC) hit seven straight 3-pointers in the first half to beat the Cougars (23-4, 13-3) in Albuquerque, N.M.

(22) Temple 70, Dayton 55: Candice Dupree had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Khadija Bowens scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half to lead the Owls (22-7) past the Flyers (17-12) in the Atlantic 10 tourney quarterfinals in Philadelphia. The Owls will play Duquesne (13-16) today in the semifinals.

NCAA Tournament qualifier: Tatiana Conceicao scored 28 points to lead the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks (22-8) to a 71-50 victory over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eaglettes (22-8) in the Ohio Valley Conference final, earning the school’s first tourney berth.
