Brewing Hope aids shelters with coffee sales
Name of the program: Brewing Hope
What it does: Call it caffeine for a cause.
For a $10 donation, get a 12-ounce bag of Craven’s organic, fair trade certified, dark roast coffee. The program makes a profit of $3 a bag, all of which is divided among Hope House, an all-women homeless shelter in Spokane; Crosswalk, a counseling center and shelter for teens in Spokane; and Project Safe Place, a youth crisis center in Coeur d’Alene.
Who runs it: Volunteers of America
How to get help: If you need a place to stay, call Hope House, 455-2886, or drop in at 111 W. Third Ave.; call Crosswalk, 838-6596, or drop in at 525 W. Second Ave.; or call the Project Safe Place 24-hour hotline, (208) 676-0772, or drop in at 205 Lacrosse Ave., Coeur d’Alene.
Background: Marilee Roloff, executive director of VOA, said Brewing Hope got its name from the women who seek out homeless shelters.
“Hope. They say that’s the first thing they need,” she said.
How to help: Order coffee from Deb Blake at dblake@voaspokane.com or call 624-2378.
