Fire crews respond to 203 calls

Spokane Valley firefighters responded to 203 calls between Feb. 28 and Monday, the exact same number of calls as the previous week.

Fire crews went out on seven fire calls, including a blaze that ignited on top of a wood stove when paper items were left on it, two vehicle flare-ups, two small brush burns and one fire in a trash bin, said spokesman Bill Clifford.

Valley firefighters responded to 11 alarms sounding, Clifford said. A few of them were leaky fire sprinkler systems. On Saturday, an alarm was set off by candles.

The department also had two hazardous material calls, 14 motor vehicle crashes and a fire investigation that turned out to be a generator’s leaky gas tank.
