Pool season may be short

The Spokane Park Board approved a number of changes to this year’s summer aquatics program at its February meeting.

The city’s public pools will be open from June 19 through Aug. 25, closing a few days earlier than last year.

Witter Pool is an exception. It will be open through Sept. 24 for lap swimming and swim teams.

Parks Department staff said the effort to attract adults to the pools last year by offering $1 admission to adults accompanied by children didn’t work as anticipated. So this year’s fee for adults will return to $2, as in earlier years.

Summer swim lessons will be cut from 40 to 30 minutes, but the fees will remain the same. This could mean that the aquatics program will be able to offer more lessons, which could increase revenue.
