Preservation volunteers will work on 1919 church

The Spokane Preservation Advocates’ Doing It project this month will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Grace Gospel Church, 2303 N. Washington St.

The church was built in 1919 of clinker brick. There is a high wood vaulted ceiling in the church with a squared tower in one corner of the exterior.

Participants will be cleaning the interior walls in preparation for paint. Wear work clothes and bring pails, rags and gloves.

A light breakfast will be served.

“ The Cliff/Cannon Neighborhood Council will meet at 7 tonight at Roosevelt Elementary School, 333 W. 14th Ave.

Guest speaker Jeff Perry, urban forester for the city of Spokane, will discuss street trees. Other discussion topics include options for enhancing the neighborhood, upcoming neighborhood cleanup and Traffic Awareness Week.

“ The Latah/Hangman Valley Neighborhood Council will meet at 7 tonight at Tidyman’s, off Cheney-Spokane Road at Highway 195.

“ The Peaceful Valley Neighborhood Council will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Peaceful Valley Community Center, 214 N. Cedar St.

“ The Rockwood Neighborhood Council will meet at 7 p.m. next Thursday in the Guild Room of the Jewett House at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, 127 E. 12th Ave.
