Zags overrated
Gonzaga is the most overrated basketball team in the country. Not many people seem to realize it, but it’s true.
Beating up on inferior West Coast Conference competition does not constitute any team to be in the top 5. When they did play formidable competition, they folded under the pressure, and could not beat the likes of Washington, UConn, and Memphis.
Yet the world insisted they were Final Four material as they cruised through WCC play. Final Four teams do not need overtime to beat mediocre squads like San Diego at home.
Let’s not forget they needed a miracle to beat USD on the road, as well. Every year, analysts want to say the Zags are prepped for a tourney run, but I got news for the Bulldogs faithful: It’s never going to happen, because constantly squeaking by WCC teams will not make any team ready for The Dance.
ESPN never ceases to amaze me when it has high hopes for Gonzaga, but it fails to realize the WCC and its refs protect their golden child, and the Zags always find a way to choke come March.
