Flustered driver turns into oncoming traffic
A woman with several arrest warrants became so nervous about the patrol car following her that she turned into oncoming traffic Sunday, police said.
Patricia Lynne Harris, 21, turned and drove the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of Broadway Avenue after she noticed a Spokane Valley Police patrol car following her, said spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.
An officer stopped Harris and discovered she had no driver’s license, as well as several arrest warrants related to forgery and grand theft in Kootenai County, Reagan said.
The officer arrested Harris and booked her into the Spokane County Jail, and also wrote her a $101 ticket for improper lane travel, Reagan said.
Two arrested on car theft charges
One stolen 1994 Honda wasn’t enough for a pair of suspected car thieves in Spokane Valley. They had to try and take another, police said.
A 17-year-old boy and 20-year-old Ryan Ray Lovitt were arrested Monday morning after they allegedly tried to steal a 1994 Honda from the 2600 block of South Bates Road, Reagan said. The owner of the car saw the two break into her car, called 911, and then watched as the two drove away in another car, Reagan said.
The caller gave police the license plate number of the car that drove away, and an officer pulled over the two males at Eighth Avenue and Pines Road, he said.
The identical Honda they were driving was stolen earlier from the 3400 block of East 36th Avenue, and after interviewing the suspects, the officer determined the pair was trying to steal the second black Honda, Reagan said.
Lovitt was booked into the Spokane County Jail on felony car theft charges, and the 17-year-old was booked into Juvenile Detention on attempted car theft charges.
Copper wire stolen from Modern Electric
Somebody used a car to tear open a chain link fence at Modern Electric’s storage yard last weekend and made off with $2,000 of copper wire.
Employees arriving at work Monday morning discovered the theft, Reagan said.
Once inside the storage yard, the suspect unrolled 120 feet of copper wire and took it, Reagan said.
The employee at Modern Electric, 904 N. Pines Road, said the break-in happened between 4 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Monday. Anyone with information is asked to call 242-TIPS.
