Brennan’s 4 hits lead GU past Dartmouth

Jackson Brennan hit home runs in the first two innings and finished 4 for 4 with five runs scored as Gonzaga routed Dartmouth 13-2 Sunday to sweep a two-game, non-conference baseball series at Avista Stadium.

Bobby Carlson also homered for the Bulldogs (16-10), hitting a two-run shot as Gonzaga scored the first seven runs of the game. Darin Holcomb (Shadle Park High) was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Johnathon Santopadre had three hits for the Big Green (2-9).

Patrick Donovan (North Central) picked up his fourth win of the season, striking out three and allowing one earned run in five innings.

•Jay Miller, Jeff Miller and Ryan Krauser each hit 3 for 5 to lead Washington State to an 8-5 victory over 17th-ranked Stanford in a Pac-10 game at Stanford, Calif.

Jay Miller had a pair of doubles and two RBIs for the Cougars (20-6, 2-0), and Paul Gran hit 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

The Cardinal (11-9, 0-2) brought the tying run to bat in the ninth inning, but WSU closer Ryan Webb (Lewis and Clark) forced J.J. Jelmini to pop up and struck out Michael Taylor.

•Tim Lincecum threw eight shutout innings to lead Washington (18-9, 1-2 ) to a 5-0 victory over California (14-11, 2-1) in a Pac-10 game at Berkeley, Calif.

Zach Clem drove in the first two runs for the Huskies, hitting a two-out RBI single in the first and a solo homer to left field in the fourth.

•Chad Flett (Mead), Travis Bertholf (Rogers) and Ben Mathiason combined to throw a two-hitter as the Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Olympic (2-19) 8-1 in a non-conference game at Spokane Falls.

Brian Yardley and Brett Henry each had two hits for the Sasquatch (5-11), and Chad Bucher (East Valley) hit a two-run homer to left field to open scoring in the second inning.

Flett threw six shutout innings, striking out seven to earn his first win of the season, then Bertholf and Mathiason didn’t surrender a hit in relief.

Washington’s 10th-ranked women’s varsity eight defeated Syracuse by 26 seconds to complete an undefeated weekend at the Windermere Crew Classic at Redwood Shores in Belmont, Calif.

Sunday’s victory was the third for the boat, which was coming off victories over No. 16 Boston College and No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday.
