Equine event planned Saturday

The Spokesman-Review

The Spring Long-Ear Short-Ear Equine Play Day is Saturday at Valley Mission Arena.

All horses and mules are welcome at this Saturday-only fund-raiser for the West Plains Community Fair.

The show starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until late afternoon.

The play day is an old-time Saturday of competition, according to fair secretary Pat Terry.

Riders start the day out competing in events like barrel racing and weaving through the poles assembled in a figure eight, then move on to musical sacks, an event comparable to musical chairs with horses.

There are a total of 10 events and four age groups, ranging from children younger than 7 up to adult.

Participants can select their events a la carte.

Each event costs $4. Families of four receive a special $80 rate to participate in all events.

Prizes will be awarded in each category for the first six finishers.

Registration is from 7 to 8 a.m.

Valley Mission Arena is at the bottom of Valley Mission Park, 11123 E. Mission Ave., Spokane Valley.
