Liberty Lake chief of police decides to stay

Christopher Rodkey Staff writer

Liberty Lake’s police chief has changed his mind.

Chief Brian Asmus decided to stay at the Liberty Lake Police Department after he applied for a lieutenant’s position in Lakewood, Wash.

Asmus said he thought about his department in Liberty Lake and realized there was still room to grow.

“I had a chance to think about everything the city has to offer and to take some time to reflect on what we’ve been able to do,” he said.

The Lakewood Police Department chief was disappointed with the decision and hoped Asmus would reconsider, Asmus said.

After considering Liberty Lake’s school system and quality of life, Asmus said he felt he had to stay.

He added he did not receive any offers of financial incentives from the city to persuade him to stay.
