Student Advisory Council seeks members

After a busy year, Spokane Valley’s Student Advisory Council is looking for more civic-minded students to join the group.

Founded by the city in 2004, the council provides a forum where high school students have taken on numerous education and service projects.

This year they produced a public service announcement on school gun violence that will soon run on a public cable channel. Other council projects have dealt with substance abuse, homelessness and even a portion of the city’s budget.

About six or eight positions will open up for next school year. Meetings are held twice a month.

Spokane Valley students can get more information from their school guidance counselors or pick up an application at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave. For more information, call Councilman Mike DeVleming at 688-0028.
