Boys soccer

State 4A playoffs: Jason Gass had three shootout saves and Mead had three shootout goals to earn a 2-1 win over Kamiakin in a first-round game in Kennewick. Cameron Bushey tied the game for the Panthers (13-3) in the 73rd minute on a touch pass from Ian Matson. Mead will face either Ferris, Puyallup or Bellarmine Prep in the quarterfinals Saturday.

3A Eastern Regional: Mitch Weller scored in the first half and added an assist in the second as Cheney defeated Hanford 2-0 for the regional title. Josh Curry had six saves to earn the shutout for the Blackhawks (15-4), who will play West Valley-Yakima or Sunnyside to open state Tuesday.

District 7 2A: Kyle Kinard scored off a corner kick from Bart Church in the 24th minute to give Pullman a 1-0 victory over Riverside (11-5) in the district championship game. Kevin Volkening had three saves to earn the shutout for the Greyhounds (18-0). Both teams advance to the state tournament.

Tennis

District 7 2A: Medical Lake swept the boys titles in Pullman en route to an overwhelming victory in the team standings. Max Nelson beat Pullman’s Kiran Poovaiah 6-3, 6-1 for the singles title. … Colville used a 1-2 finish in the girls doubles to earn the team title. Medical Lake’s Colleen Constantine beat Chewelah’s Georgia Goot 6-4, 6-0 for the singles championship.

Track and field

Panorama League Championships: St. George’s set two league records on its way to winning the girls title in Colville. Maja Rodell won the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 25 seconds, and she was also on the 1,600 relay team, which won in 4:25. … Abe Moland won the 200 in a close finish and also took the 400 (52.65) to lead St. George’s to the boys title. Moland finished the 200 in 23.28, beating Curlew’s Bernard Payne by .01 second.
