Robbery suspect arrested in Oklahoma

The Spokesman-Review

A man suspected of brutally beating and robbing an elderly Spokane couple in their home last year was arrested Saturday night in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

Steven Price Unruh, 46, was found playing in a band outside of Tulsa, Okla. He was arrested by local police and FBI agents on a warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Spokane authorities suspect Unruh and three women of breaking into a home on North Five Mile Road on May 8, 2005. Police say the four suspects beat and robbed an elderly couple living there. The victims told authorities the robbers stayed in their house for half an hour, disabling the phone, gathering jewelry, a wallet and credit cards before fleeing in a 1994 Ford Aerostar. They were also suspected of traveling in a four-door 1987 Honda Accord with Oklahoma license plates. The male suspect was armed with a gun.

Within days of the robbery, police identified Unruh and the others who were filmed by a surveillance camera.

The FBI, which announced Unruh’s capture, reported he resisted arrest and presented agents with someone else’s identification when he was apprehended.

One of the other suspects, Pamela Drake, 32, was arrested in Oklahoma a few days after the robbery. The two other women suspected in the robbery have not been found.

Police say suspect Dalinda M. Combs, 35, is white, 5-foot-6 and weighs about 130 pounds.

She has red hair and green eyes and sometimes uses the last name Whitman.

The other suspect is Karen J. Applegate, who is white, 5-foot-8 and weighs 125 pounds.

She has brown hair and brown eyes, and sometimes uses the last name Sternberg.

Applegate’s age is unknown.
