Man arrested in shooting
A Spokane man was arrested on the South Hill early Saturday after allegedly shooting at an SUV with a woman and child inside, according to Spokane police.
Zachary E. O’Malley, 26, was booked into jail on two counts of first-degree assault, according to Cpl. Tom Lee of the Spokane Police Department.
No one was injured during the 1:30 a.m. incident, which happened near the intersection of East 41st Avenue and South Sherman Street.
Residents in the neighborhood called police after hearing gunshots, Lee said. When they looked outside, they saw a man in the street holding a handgun, he said. Police officers later tracked down an SUV with its back window shot out.
According to Lee, O’Malley had been arguing with the driver, a 23-year-old woman who lives in the Moran Prairie area. She and a 5-year-old boy inside the vehicle were driving away when the shots were fired the shots, police said.

Band may end up in dump fight
The city’s plans for building a new dump in industrial South Seattle would require the demolition of Pearl Jam’s new headquarters – a fact that took the rock band by surprise.
“We hadn’t even finished unpacking and moving into our new space when we heard about the city’s waste-management site,” spokeswoman Nicole Vandenberg said Saturday in an e-mail.
Now, residents of the Georgetown neighborhood are hoping the band will help fight the plan. Vandenberg did not comment on whether the band would take a side in the fight.

Two missing after rafts capsize
Four rafts carrying 19 people capsized in a remote section of the Klickitat River in south-central Washington Saturday afternoon, leaving two people unaccounted for and causing at least two injuries, said the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office.
What caused the rafts to capsize was unknown Saturday evening, although Communications Officer Pam Maurer said “the Klickitat River is running really high and fast right now.”
Maurer said the Klickitat River is a popular place for rafting, but because of recent warm and rainy weather, it’s also been the site of several accidents this year.
