Summer programs, camps for children planned
Spokane Valley’s Parks and Recreation Department is preparing for another busy summer of children’s programs and day camps.
The city will host a variety of activities for kids, from free events in Spokane Valley parks to half-day or full-day activities for children.
Free kids activities in Spokane Valley parks start June 19 and run through Aug. 25. According to the city’s Web site, games, crafts and other activities will be offered weekdays at Browns Park from 1 to 4 p.m.; Edgecliff Park from 1 to 4 p.m., and Valley Mission Park from 9 a.m. to noon.
Children age 3 and younger, so long as they can crawl, can come to Little Tykes Indoor Gym. City officials describe the activity as a good way to meet other young families and for children get to play with toys and socialize. The activity is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Western Dance Hall in Sullivan Park, June 19 through Aug. 25.
Cost is $20 for 10 visits. Parents must accompany their children.
Children ages 3 to 5 can participate in arts and crafts, music, fitness and field trips at Kindercamp, also held at the Western Dance Hall. Each week will feature a different theme and set of activities from 9 a.m. to noon. The first week of the camp starts June 19 and the program runs through July 28. Cost is $50 per child, per week.
Full-day camp, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, is available for children ages 6 to 11 at the CenterPlace Community Center. The program runs from June 19 through Aug. 25, with a different theme each week ranging from science to swimming. Cost is $90 per child per week.
