Mackenzie, Lee fire 72s for Huskies
The University of Washington women’s golf team shot a 5-over-par 293 Thursday and stands tied for seventh place at 902 after three rounds of the NCAA championship at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course in Columbus.
Seniors Paige Mackenzie and Sung Ea Lee led the Huskies with matching rounds of 72 on the par-72, 6,203-yard track.
Mackenzie stands in 12th at 5-over 221.
Lee is one stroke back and is in a tie for 17th place.
Mackenzie has played 138 rounds, the most in UW history, while Lee has played in 132 rounds, which ranks second.
UW junior Amber Prange shot a 76 and is in 64th at 230. Kim Shin registered a 73, putting her 77th at 233.
Courtney McCracken shot a 78 and is 99th at 236.
Duke grabbed the team lead with a tournament-best round of 287, giving the Blue Devils an 876 and a 13-shot lead over USC heading into today’s fourth and final round.
Pepperdine’s Eileen Vargas leads the race for the individual title at 214, three stokes ahead of four players.
Hockey
The Spokane Chiefs released 19-year-old Phil Magistrale from their roster.
The second-year defenseman was acquired in January and appeared in 10 games for Spokane before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
