Royals 6, Athletics 4: At Oakland, Calif., Shane Costa doubled twice and drove in a run, and Seth Etherton won in the majors for the first time in more than a year as Kansas City beat Oakland. Emil Brown had three hits and drove in a run and Matt Stairs and Doug Mientkiewicz had RBI doubles for Kansas City.
Angels 4, Twins 3 (11): At Anaheim, Calif., Orlando Cabrera’s third hit of the game, an RBI single in the 11th, sent Los Angeles past Minnesota. Garret Anderson added a pair of RBI singles for the Angels.
Yankees 4, Tigers 0: At Detroit, Randy Johnson didn’t give up a hit for 5 2/3 innings and combined with two relievers for a two-hitter as New York beat Detroit. Johnson had given up at least four runs in five of his previous six outings.
White Sox 11, Indians 0: At Cleveland, Jim Thome hit a pair of two-run homers and Javier Vazquez pitched six strong innings to help Chicago beat Cleveland. Vazquez gave up only two singles – both with two out in the third inning.
Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 6: At Toronto, pinch-hitter Shea Hillenbrand hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning, and Toronto overcame a tying, three-run homer by Jason Varitek to beat Boston.
