Webster powers EWU to sweep
Eastern Washington forged a third-place tie with Montana after a 30-23, 30-20, 30-24 win over visiting Montana State (7-19, 3-12) in Big Sky Conference volleyball play Thursday night.
Addie Webster had her 10th consecutive double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs for the Eagles (17-8, 9-6).
•San Diego (21-5, 11-1), ranked No. 18, defeated visiting Gonzaga 30-32, 30-22, 30-27, 30-23 in West Coast Conference play.
Briawna Mueller led the Zags (8-18, 3-8) with 14 kills and eight blocks. Four Bulldogs had more than 10 digs.
•Idaho defeated Fresno State 28-30, 30-26, 30-28, 30-28 in Western Athletic Conference play at Fresno, Calif.
Haley Larsen had 19 kills and Stacy Sode added 35 digs to lead the Vandals (9-15, 8-4). Fresno State is 4-21, 2-11.
Men’s basketball
North Idaho (2-1) shellacked the visiting Great Falls junior varsity 112-53, allowing 13 points in the first half and shooting 37 of 47 from the field.
NIC’s Nick Livi scored 22 points with six 3-pointers.
•The University of Washington announced the signing of Darnell Gant, a 6-foot-8 forward from Crenshaw High in Los Angeles.
Women’s basketball
North Idaho (2-1) fell victim to 62 first-half points by Central Arizona (3-1) and lost 95-67 in the College of Southern Idaho Classic at Twin Falls.
NIC’s Simone Jordan led all players with 24 points and added six boards, and Kay Hill totaled 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
•Montana State announced the signing of 6-foot guard Lyndi Seidensticker of Lewis and Clark High.
Seidensticker averaged 10 points per game and shot 42 percent on 3-pointers as the Tigers won the State 4A title last season.
Women’s soccer
Washington State University junior Allison Scurich and freshman Carly Dobratz were named to the All-Pac-10 Conference second team and junior goalkeeper Brynn Bemis earned honorable mention honors.
Dobratz was also awarded a spot on the All-Freshman team.
•Three Whitworth players made the All-Northwest Conference team, including junior midfielder Jael Hagerott (Mead High), who earned her third career honor, junior forward Greta Thibodeau, and sophomore forward Penelope Crowe, who received honorable mention.
Men’s soccer
Whitworth midfielder Ali Seyedali was chosen to the All-Northwest Conference first team, while six of his teammates earned second-team honors: juniors Skye Henderson (Lewis and Clark High) and Ben Dixon, and seniors Niko Varlamos, Kevin Bostock, Adam Loeffler and Sean Lambrecht.
