Friesen leads Idaho at regional

Idaho sophomore Kevin Friesen finished 63rd Saturday at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships at Blue Lake Park in Fairview, Ore., helping the Vandals earn 19th place out of 25 teams.

Friesen finished the 10,000-meter course in 32 minutes, 00.36 seconds.

Washington State took eighth, led by the 23rd-place finish of Alex Grant, who ran 31:02.12.

Eastern Washington took 21st, led by Paul Limpf, who finished in 31:49.91 to place 53rd.

Former Bonners Ferry graduate and current Boise State senior All-American Forest Braden finished sixth overall in 30:24.43.

On the women’s side, Idaho finished in 22nd place. The Vandals were led by freshman Rhea Richter, who finished the 6,000 in 22:30.56 to take 40th.

Junior Haley Paul finished 18th for Washington State, helping the Cougars earn ninth place. Paul ran in 21:52.16.

Eastern Washington took 21st, led by the 65th-place finish of junior Camille Moseley, who ran in 23:02.81.

•The Community Colleges of Spokane men and women took first place at the NWAACC championships at Spokane Falls Community College.

Rick Bogatay led the men, finishing the 8,000 in 25:50.825, good for second place.

On the women’s side, Taebrooke Rutter finished the 5,000 in 18:55.761 to take second.

•Whitworth senior Julie Lauterbach finished fifth at the NCAA Division III West Regionals at Prado Park in Chino, Calif., helping the Pirates women earn seventh place.
