Grading the cougars: D+

The Spokesman-Review

Quarterbacks

C

Brink didn’t have much help but didn’t do much to help, either.

Running backs

D+

Left all alone by injury, Tardy got nothing going early when WSU needed it.

Wide receivers

C

Gibson actually did fairly well in his role as a No. 1 wideout.

Offensive line

D

No push, not much pass protection, and ASU’s defense isn’t that good.

Defensive line

D

Rudy Carpenter would have had time to throw from the WSU locker room.

Linebackers

D+

Losing Davis to injury didn’t help, but by then the game was out of hand anyway.

Defensive backs

F

Completely embarrassed by Carpenter and a depleted stable of ASU wideouts.

Special teams

C

Didn’t see much time on the field, although the fake punt failure wasn’t good.

Coaching

D-

Thought the team was ready; it wasn’t. Thought the plan was good; it wasn’t.
