WSU swimming canceled

Washington State University officials have canceled this weekend’s swimming competition at the Indiana Invitational for disciplinary reasons, head coach Erica Quam announced Tuesday.

Quam said the decision was made because of a violation of team rules involving many team members.

Football

Led by Joel Clark, Casey Clifton and John Tully, Whitworth had 17 members of its football team named to the 2006 All-Northwest Conference team.

Clark, a 2003 Mt. Spokane graduate, was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Clifton was named Defensive Player of the Year. Tully got the nod for NWC Coach of the Year.

Michael Allan, Steve Silva and Steve Honeyman were also first-team All-NWC selections on offense.

Greg Caster, Justin Rundle, Jay Tully and Ryan Marshall were first-team All-NWC defensive selections.

Cross country

Ferris graduate and current University of Portland runner Justin Houck finished 40th at the NCAA West Regionals at Blue Lake Park in Fairview, Ore., last Saturday.

Houck finished the 10,000-meter course in 31 minutes, 31.46 seconds.

“Washington State University’s Alex Grant, Woody Favinger and Haley Paul were named to the Division I All-West Region team, as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
