West Central men attacked, robbed
Thieves seeking beer, food and cash have attacked and robbed several men in the West Central neighborhood since August, authorities said.
All but one of the robberies happened when a person was returning from a grocery store, said Spokane police Cpl. Tom Lee. Two teenagers were arrested Tuesday in two of the six street robberies that police are investigating.
Detectives are seeking help from anyone who knows more about the West Central neighborhood robberies, Detective Brian Hammond said in news release.
Sherman A. Newman, 17, was arrested Tuesday on a count of first-degree robbery in connection with an Aug. 31 case, Lee said. A 38-year-old man was beaten and robbed in Dutch Jake Park at Broadway Avenue and Chestnut Street. Detectives anticipate charging more suspects.
Pierre Jamel Davis, 18, was booked into the Spokane County Jail on Tuesday for first-degree robbery, Lee said. A 30-year-old man was beaten with a chair Sept. 27 after leaving a grocery store at Broadway and Nettleton Avenue. The man suffered severe injuries, Lee said. Two more suspects will likely be charged in the robbery this week.
The robberies between August and early October all occurred within two blocks of each other, Lee said. Police are also seeking information about four others:
“Sept. 21, 6:38 p.m., a 25-year old man was robbed in the 2200 block of West Broadway by a group of up to seven individuals.
“Sept. 23, 1 p.m., three people beat and robbed a man near College Avenue and Nettleton.
“Sept. 24, 10:45 p.m., three people, one armed with a handgun, robbed a pizza delivery driver in the 2100 block of West Mallon Avenue.
“Oct. 4, 3:50 p.m., a 53-year-old man was beaten and robbed of groceries and his wallet by three to four individuals at Broadway and Chestnut Street.
