Finding videos online

Everybody is giddy about online video, especially sites like Revver and YouTube where you can gobble up tiny clips and track what’s especially popular, thanks to site trackers that list most-viewed videos.

When you want to go into search mode and find videos across the Web, there’s really no mega-site that’s better than any other. The flood of video keeps coming and it’s nearly impossible for any site to get a large view.

Here are several search sites for finding some of the best videos being viewed online:

Blinkx.com. One of the first video search sites. Very good at showing thumbnail-views. Try something like “Spokane” and view the results there.

Searchvideo.com. Acquired by AOL a few months ago. One of the largest overall sites. Good selection of news videos.

Grouper.com. This site has a great selection of TV and movie clips, if that’s your preference. Grouper offers iPod owners the option of downloading clips in the PSP format that iPod uses.

Axiosum.com. A fairly new site that isn’t extensive. But it has a smart and appealing look, very uncluttered and simple to navigate. I’d bookmark this one.

Revver.com. Not as well-known as YouTube but a fast-growing video site. One notable feature that attracts content is a revenue-sharing system that pays some providers a cut of ad money generated there.
