Schembechler memorialized
Hundreds of maize-and-blue- clad mourners filed past the casket of Bo Schembechler on Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich., to pay tribute to the no-nonsense coach who became the face of Michigan football.
Schembechler died Friday at age 77 after collapsing at a suburban Detroit television studio. His death came the day before No. 1 Ohio State beat No. 2 Michigan 42-39 in one of college football’s great rivalries.

•The Carroll College Fighting Saints will host St. Xavier University of Illinois in the quarterfinals of the NAIA football playoffs Saturday in Helena.
Fourth-ranked and four-time defending national champion Carroll defeated No. 11 Montana State-Northern 20-7 on Saturday in Helena.

Tour rookie wins
Two days after turning 20, LPGA Tour rookie Julieta Granada got her first victory – and, perhaps more importantly, took home the first $1 million prize in women’s golf at West Palm Beach, Fla.
Granada shot a bogey-free round of 68, beating an eight-player final-round field to win the ADT Championship at Trump International.
Volleyball
U.S. men get win
The U.S. men won for the first time at the volleyball world championships, defeating the Czech Republic 25-16, 15-25, 25-20, 25-23 at Fukuoka, Japan.
David McKienzie and James Polster each scored 15 points for the Americans, who improved to 1-2 in Group C of the 24-team tournament.
The top four from each of the four six-team groups advance to the second round. The tournament ends Dec. 3.

Lions win Grey Cup
Paul McCallum kicked a Grey Cup record-tying six field goals, and the British Columbia Lions defeated the Montreal Alouettes 25-14 to win the Canadian Football League championship in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Ian Smart scored a touchdown for the Lions, who had the best regular-season record and won their fifth Grey Cup.
•Kenya’s Hosea Kimutai won the Philadelphia Marathon.
Kimutai pulled away from a pack of three runners at the 18-mile mark and went on to finish in two hours, 17 minutes, 9 seconds. That was 22 seconds off the record for a 26.2-mile race in Philadelphia.
Michael McKeeman took second in 2:17.50, qualifying him for the 2007 United States men’s Olympic marathon trials in New York City.
Russian Maryina Bychkova won on the women’s side with a personal best 2:40.31.
•Reliever Justin Speier agreed to terms of a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels, who will become his seventh major league club.
•Anni Friesinger of Germany remained unbeaten in five races this year, winning the women’s 1,000 meters at the speedskating World Cup in Berlin.
Friesinger finished in 1 minute, 15.53 seconds. Erben Wennemars of the Netherlands captured the men’s 1,000 in 1:08.88.
•Armin Zoeggeler of Italy opened the luge World Cup season with a victory on the same track in Cesana, Italy, where he won his second straight Olympic gold medal last season.
He was fastest in both runs and finished in 1 minute, 46.061 seconds. Albert Demtschenko of Russia, the silver medalist at the Turin Games, again finished second, in 1:46.449.
