WSU lineman Roof arrested for assault

The Spokesman-Review

Washington State offensive lineman Andy Roof was arrested by Pullman police the night of the Apple Cup (Nov. 18) and charged with fourth-degree assault.

Cmdr. Chris Tennant said Wednesday that police were dispatched to a Pullman bar on Colorado Street when a “disorderly subject” was reported to be picking fights in line outside the bar.

Multiple males identified Roof as the assailant when police arrived, leading to the arrest, according to Tennant.

According to reports from the arresting officers, Roof, a 21-year-old redshirt sophomore out of East Valley High School, started to walk away from the scene after people began to point him out to police, but the officers held him until they had assurances from multiple people that Roof was the one allegedly responsible for the fights.

Fourth-degree assault is the lowest level of assault, and Roof was released on his own recognizance without bail that night.

Also, a clarification on a story that appeared in Wednesday’s edition: Tupo Fuaau, who was arrested earlier this week on multiple burglary charges, is no longer on the WSU football team. He was dismissed in October after playing as a walk-on defensive back.
