Police want tips on string of shootings
Post Falls police are trying to find who’s responsible for a string of shootings that occurred Monday night between Idaho Street and state Highway 41, and Seltice and Mullan roads.
Police have not heard of any injuries from the six shootings reported primarily between 8 and 9 p.m. Bullets struck cars, houses and businesses, including the Burton Academy of Beauty Culture and Hair Design and Sling Shots Espresso.
At least one of the structures, a home on Fountain Drive, was occupied at the time, police said. The residents reported hearing a loud noise coming from another room and discovered a bullet had blasted through a window and into the room, which had been a baby’s bedroom until a few weeks ago, police said.
Two similar shootings reported just outside Post Falls are being handled by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
“These are all just single, one shot into the vehicle or structure, and most of them are all into glass,” said Post Falls police Lt. Scot Haug.
He encouraged people to check their homes and businesses for damage from bullets and report it to police right away.
A small-caliber weapon is believed to have been used in the shootings, police said, and the suspect is thought to have fired the shots from a moving vehicle, possibly from the passenger’s side. Police have no information regarding the suspect and ask anyone with tips to call 911 or submit information anonymously at www.postfallspolice.com/ Tip.htm.

Information sought in weekend incident
Coeur d’Alene police are asking for any information about a man who allegedly attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old girl Saturday near Ninth Street.
The girl was riding her bicycle about 3:30 p.m. when, she told police, a man approached her. He allegedly asked the girl if she wanted to ride on the handlebars, according to a police report.
The girl told police she didn’t answer and kept pedaling. As she passed the man, he allegedly reached toward her and brushed her hand. The girl told police she thought he was trying to grab her. He asked her where she lived and to come back.
The man is described as in his mid-20s with a yellow sweat shirt tied around his waist and a dark green baseball cap. The girl last saw him walking north on Ninth Street near Project CDA, the alternative high school.
