Bikes for needy accidentally trashed

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

HOQUIAM, Wash. – About 300 bikes that were supposed to be refurbished for needy children were accidentally destroyed at a recycling center in Hoquiam.

The bikes were being stored under the stands at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam. They were to be sent to Stafford Correctional Center to be refurbished by inmates in time to give them to needy children for Christmas.

Instead they went to the metal recycler.
