Zags shut out USF in women’s soccer
The Gonzaga University women’s soccer team earned its second shutout in as many matches Sunday in Spokane with a 1-0 win over the University of San Francisco.
Nanda McCormick’s fourth goal of the season nine minutes into play was the difference in the match. The Bulldogs (8-6-1, 2-1-0 WCC) outshot San Francisco (4-10-2, 0-2-1) 12-9.
•Washington State played the Oregon Ducks to a 0-0 tie in Eugene, Ore. The Cougars (7-4-3, 2-0-1 Pac-10) outshot the Ducks (9-3-1, 3-0-1) 17-14. Goalkeeper Brynn Bemis had two saves for WSU.
•Shelly Ikerd scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute but Eastern Washington University fell to Sacramento State 2-1 in Sacramento, Calif.
The Eagles (5-10-1, 1-3-0 BSC) were outshot 27-5 by the Hornets (8-6-2, 2-1-1) in the loss.
•The University of Washington beat Oregon State 1-0 in Corvallis, Ore. Katie Hall scored the lone goal for the Huskies (6-8, 1-2 Pac-10).
•Nevada defeated Idaho 5-1 at Reno, Nev. The Wolf Pack (8-3-3, 1-1-1 WAC) outshot the Vandals (0-16-0, 0-4-0) 22-4.
•Greta Thibodeau scored the first goal of the game and assisted on the second to lead Whitworth to a 2-0 victory over George Fox in Newberg, Ore.
The Pirates (9-2-2, 7-2-1 NWC) scored both goals in the first half and outlasted the Bruins (4-9-1, 2-7-1) in a defensive struggle in the second half.
Men’s soccer
Tye Perdido scored his second goal of the season to give Gonzaga a 2-1 overtime win over visiting Portland.
George Josten scored the other goal for the Bulldogs who are now 6-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in WCC play.
•Whitworth defeated George Fox 6-2 after trailing 2-1 at the half.
Sean Lambrecht scored twice for the Pirates (7-3-3, 6-1-2 NWC).
•Washington lost 3-2 in overtime to California at Berkeley, Calif. The Huskies (9-5-0, 2-5-0 Pac-10) led twice but Javier Ayala-Hill scored in the 97th minute to give the Golden Bears (10-3-1, 5-1-0) the win.
Junior hockey
The Spokane Braves beat Castlegar 4-3 at Eagles Ice-A-Rena. The Braves (11-5-1) won a shootout 3-0 to secure the win.
