GU’s Davis out for 2 months
Theo Davis, a highly touted freshman on Gonzaga University’s men’s basketball team, underwent shoulder surgery early this week and will be sidelined for at least a couple of months, according to Bulldogs coach Mark Few.
Few said the 6-foot-9, 198-pound Canadian suffered ligament damage in his shoulder during one of the team’s first practices.
“We thought it was just a strain, but he ended up tearing some ligaments back there,” Few explained. “He certainly didn’t need that, and we didn’t need it, either.”
Davis’ injury, coupled with those suffered by transfers Micah Downs (stress reaction) and David Burgess (knee), leaves the Zags short of healthy bodies.
“Depth is definitely becoming an issue, because this is not a deep team by any stretch,” Few said.

Bullpups forfeit non-league game
Gonzaga Prep, ranked as high as second in the State 4A, has forfeited its 48-7 non-league football win against Tacoma’s Bellarmine Prep.
During the Sept. 9 game, the Bullpups used an ineligible player, a sophomore transfer who had been brought up as a practice reward, for four plays. It was self-reported by the school.
“It was an administrative error,” said activities coordinator Paul Manfred. “He shouldn’t have been suited up. We are looking at it like a life lesson. We did screw up.”
The forfeit loss drops the Bullpups’ record to 7-1 overall, but their Greater Spokane League-leading 7-0 record is unaffected. Prep beat Rogers 42-8 Thursday (Story, C4).

Club sports out of control
It’s time for a change.
It’s time for the overlap between club and high school sports to stop.
It’s time for high schools to tell their athletes to make a choice during the high school season. It’s for their good.
