Dinner, auction will benefit Greg Knapp

The Spokesman-Review

A benefit dinner and silent auction will be tonight to help a Spokane Valley man diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

From 5 to 8 p.m. at Pasadena Park Elementary, 8508 E. Upriver Drive, family and friends will raise money for Greg Knapp. At 30, the father of two was diagnosed with stage III multiple myeloma. In addition to other expensive treatments, he needs a costly stem-cell transplant.

The dinner costs $10 per person or $25 for a family of four.

Auction items include dinner and a round of golf at the Spokane Country Club for two with Mark Rypien, waterfront vacation rentals, spa treatments, artwork, two ticket-packages to the 2007 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, as well as tickets for Gonzaga University men’s basketball, the Apple Cup and the Spokane Chiefs.

CVSD bond

Kids First will answer bond questions

If there’s something you don’t understand or questions you may have regarding Central Valley School District’s upcoming construction bond, Anne Long wants to talk about it over coffee.

Long is cochairwoman for Kids First, a citizens’ volunteer organization campaigning to pass the $75.75 million bond on the Nov. 7 ballot.

If passed, the bond would directly fund four major construction projects including a new elementary and new middle school in the overcrowded eastern part of the 80 square-mile district and the complete remodeling of Ponderosa and Opportunity elementary schools.

The remodeling of Greenacres Elementary and improvements to Broadway, Chester, Progress, Sunrise and University elementary schools and Barker High School would be funded with state reimbursement funds and is contingent on the bond passing.

A 60 percent yes vote is needed for the bond to pass.

Long will provide information and discuss the bond issue with Central Valley patrons from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the following dates and locations: Tuesday: Cuppa Joe’s, 213 S. University Road; Wednesday: Casey’s Place, 13817 E. Sprague Ave.; Thursday: High Nooner, 523 N. Pines Road; Friday: Wild Noodles, 328 N. Sullivan Road.
