Ferris earns No. 1 soccer seed

Ferris scored two first-half goals and held on to beat visiting Mt. Spokane (6-4 in league) 2-1 in a Greater Spokane League girls soccer finale on Friday.

With the win, the Saxons (8-2, 25 points) will be the No. 1 seed entering the District 8 4A playoffs. They tied with Mead in points but won their head-to-head matchup.

In other league action, Marissa Mykines and Angie Hughes scored to lead host Mead (9-1, 25) to a 2-1 victory over Central Valley (3-7). The Panthers are the No. 2 seed. … Gonzaga Prep got goals from Megan Lindsay and Brianna Kerley and beat host North Central (1-9) 2-0. The Bullpups outshot the Indians 14-2. No. 3 G-Prep (8-2, 10) will host No. 6 CV in a loser-out contest 7 p.m. Monday at Albi. … Kylee Williamson scored two second-half goals to lead East Valley (7-3) past visiting Shadle Park 3-0. Hannah Krogseth made nine saves for the Knights. The Highlanders (6-4) are the No. 4 seed and play No. 5 University 5 p.m. Monday at Albi in the opening round of the district playoffs. … Lewis and Clark (3-7) beat host Rogers (0-10) 5-0.

Cross country

Brian Angove finished in 17 minutes, 38 seconds to lead the host St. George’s boys to the title at the Panorama League championships.

Springdale finished second followed by Wellpinit.

On the girls’ side, Maja Rodell finished in 20:37 as St. George’s took first. Springdale finished second.

•Valley Christian’s Jeff Pope (17:01 for 3 miles) and Northwest Christian’s Lisa Vandenburg (19:30) won the Bi-County League championships at Harrington Golf and Country Club. Reardan won both team titles.
