Man in standoff booked into jail
Spokane Valley Police identified the man arrested after a nine-hour standoff Friday as Ralph C. White, 54.
White was booked into the Spokane County Jail early Saturday morning on suspicion of second-degree unlawful possession of firearms, second-degree malicious mischief and reckless endangerment, said sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan.
Law enforcement officers surrounded the Valley Breeze Trailer Park in the Edgecliff neighborhood after witnesses reported hearing gunfire about 2:40 p.m. Friday.
White refused to talk to officers, but they subdued him by shooting him with a non-lethal weapon about 11:40 p.m.
Reagan said White, whose criminal history includes felony convictions from the mid-1980s, was uninjured. Details on those convictions or a possible motive for Friday’s incident were unavailable.
Before the standoff was over, more than 60 officers, volunteers and Red Cross personnel were at the scene, Reagan said.
